Donita large & The small band

folk, blues, and rock with Indigenous sizzle

Since releasing her first single in June 2021, Donita has been a sought-after performer on festival stages and concerts as "Donita Large & The Small Band".  Some of the festival stages include the Edmonton International Fringe Festival, RavenWood Music Festival, K-Days Indigenous Showcase and recently a special concert event called “Songs of Reconciliation” at Leduc’s Maclab Centre for Performing Arts.  The Small Band includes members, Anthony King on bass, Alan Tymofichuk on guitar, and Barry Martin on drums.

Donita Large is a seasoned singer/songwriter with over 25 years of professional experience in the music industry. As one of the founding members of the Indigenous women’s acapella group Asani, Donita has graced the stage of Carnegie Hall in New York City. She also lent her talents to a choir for Johnny Reid at the Canadian Country Music Association Awards. Her passion for music began at the tender age of five, and since then, she has been honing her craft and has established herself as a prominent artist in the music scene.  In 2021, Donita decided to release her original music, and she has been making waves ever since. Her latest blues single, “Too Much of Anything,” was released November 8, 2023. Donita’s musical journey has taken her to new heights, and she is now collaborating with award-winning Producer Chris Birkett to complete an album entitled “The Ancestors” with anticipated release in the summer of 2024. Donita is also a member of the Indigenous women's group Nîpisîy (a few notable performances in 2023 include the Edmonton Folk Festival, North Country Fair, Winspear Centre). With her powerful and soulful voice, Donita is a force to be reckoned with in the music industry. To read more about Donita visit her BIO page.
